NL Triple Crown odds: Pujols vs. Votto

Update: Lucky's sports books in Nevada posted a Triple Crown prop after I wrote this item. Our numbers were roughly in the same ballpark.

No sports books have posted odds on Albert Pujols or Joey Votto winning the National League Triple Crown, but here's what I believe those odds would look like if they did:

Pujols to win the NL Triple Crown: No -770, yes +570.

Votto to win the NL Triple Crown: No -2000, yes +1200.

Will any player win the NL Triple Crown this season? No -475, yes +375.

Analyzing newly released betting propositions from Las Vegas on the Miami Heat and LeBron James

Update: Two days after I made the bet recounted here, the odds have been adjusted to plus 400 on the yes and minus 600 on the no. I have no idea how much my wager factored into the move, nor is it any of my business. Regardless, those are the updated odds.

Several new propositions on the Miami Heat have been posted in Las Vegas sports books in recent days.

The M Resort is offering a prop that asks whether the Heat's longest winning streak this season will be over or under 14.5 games. It's minus 130 on the under, even money on the over. (Odds are current as of this week; as always, they are subject to change.)

Here's one way to break it down ...

I place the consensus betting total on the number of Heat victories overall at about 64. For instance, at the M it's under 64.5, minus 125.

That indicates Miami has about a 78 percent chance of winning an average game against average competition.

Another supposedly major U.S. newspaper sees fit to promote crappy offshore sports books

Here's an item from the Detroit Free Press discussing the over/under on regular-season wins by the Lions, a total that stands at 5 or 5.5 at most spots:

The article mentions two sports books, both offshore joints: Bet US and SBG Global.

Update on 'Conquering Risk' book

Update: I have received my copy of the book. It is published by Academic Publications and it lists for $24.95.

As I predicted in an early review in June, the new book "Conquering Risk: Attacking Vegas and Wall Street," by Elihu D. Feustel and George S. Howard, has been attracting a great deal of attention among sports bettors.

As an illustration, readers arrived at this site to check out the review after Googling "Conquering Risk" -- those exact words -- from the following countries (in no particular order): Ireland, England, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Finland, Croatia, Turkey, Costa Rica, Denmark, Sweden, Colombia, Russia, Switzerland, Portugal, Romania, Norway, Singapore and the U.S.

Whew.

Here's the original review (as noted before, as a point of full disclosure, I contributed some editing work to the book):

Sunday night football recap

During my appearance on the Chris Andrews Show on Fox Sports Radio on Thursday, I gave out the 49ers minus 3 points against the Colts as my lone play for the first week of the NFL preseason.

Sunday night's result was a good one, as the 49ers won 37-17 after closing as a 4-point favorite.
